My first Cap City race and my second CX race went really well. I stay upright the whole time which was awesome because crashing sucks. The long paved straight away was great. Awesome course all around. Sorry to see Marty crash. Hope recovery is quick. |

First Cap City race and first A race. It felt good. I started strong, I stayed in contact with the Cleveland guys for the first lap and lost it going up the Soap Box Hill, hung with Kyle and Bruce until he took off. Kyle and I sprinted up the hill for 8th place. The rivalry began. |

It was cold and wet...perfect for cross! This was a great new venue and a challenging course. At least one crash was expected in this race and I fortunately got mine out of the way on the first lap on one of the off camber up-hill turns. I wanted to turn and my bike didn't, so I went sliding under the tape and collected at least one other rider behind me. The rest of the race, I traded positions with Garth and Phil Noble. I eventually beat Phil, but Garth has the skinny factor that helped on the soap box hill climb. At least it was nice getting to race in real cross weather, instead of the hot weather we have had so far. The frites after the race were the best part of the day! Great idea Chris! |

Rainy, windy, twisty w/ a sweet mtb type climb & descent. I started from the back of the group & had possibly the worst starts going up the Soap Box Darby hill. One by one I started catching riders and making up time on the technical sections. I caught Riedel on the second lap and then settle in with a good battle with a couple riders that lasted most of the race. I would get past on the long paved climb, pull them back during the grass section before the first dismount (crashed there 2nd lap) lose time. Start to bring them back in. Lose time on the 2nd up hill dismount. Past a number crashed rider on the off camber descent. Spin up the twisty climb by the Finish, power down the paved to grass descent, past the wheel pit. Into the woods, up the climb, bomb down the single track and catch up or put time on rider through the twisty, undulating section past the pits again and more off camber before the start finish line hill. They scored all masters together, so I will have to wait under Monday (or so) to find out how I did in the Masters 45+. |

Great day for a 'cross race. Pretty cool venue, though it was tough to find. Did the 'B' race. Dropped the chain a couple of times but didn't go down despite slippery conditions. I have no idea where I finished. Wrenched my back at some point so I won't be training for a while - just the regular commute to work. |

All this time in the Columbus area and I didn't know we had a soap box derby hill! Wish we could have raced it downhill but that just wouldn't be cyclocross... not nearly enough pain going downhill. Cool venue, and nice mix of pavement, grass and the single track hill bomb. Personally, this was quite painful as I had only ridden about 3 times the entire summer... no, running doesn't help at all for cycling fitness. |
