Comments: Our intent is to have 4 categories: A, B, juniors, women. These may get combined or separated out further depending on who shows up. Anyone is welcome to race in a harder category. Since these are for training, please respect the lower categories and let them have your race. In other words, if you are finishing top 5-10 in the A's, you probably shouldn't be jumping in the B's. The races will rotate, so A, B, W, Jr, repeat. Each group should get 3-4 races per night. We may also do some fun events like a slow race or whatever else we make up on the spot. My kids (4 and 6) will be present. If we get enough other littles to have a kids fun race, I'm game to put that on. So for those of you who haven't done these before -- we typically do 4-5 types of races. We'll explain how each one works at the start, but here's a quick rundown. Note that these are general guidelines. The rules as explained at the start will be the rules for the race. This gives a basic concept, but details written here count for nada. Scratch race -- this is basically a "race." Ride a fixed number of laps, then the order at the finish line is the order of the race. It requires its own name, because there's other kinds of races: Points race -- Set number of laps. Every n'th lap (probably every 3rd or 4th) there is a sprint for points. Top 3 riders get 3, 2, and 1 point. Whoever finishes with the most points wins. Racing continues after each sprint. So if you win the first sprint, then get dropped, you probably won't win the race. Win & out -- Set number of laps -- typically 3 or 4, then the winner of the next lap wins the race. Everyone else keeps racing. Winner of the lap after that is 2nd, winner of the lap after that is 3rd. Typically go 4-5 deep. Miss & Out -- Last rider across the line on every lap gets pulled and withdraws from the race. Everyone else keeps racing. When there's 3 left, they sprint it out for the win. Tempo -- like a points race, except 1 point for the winner of each lap. Nothing for 2nd. Race might be 5-10 laps long.
